Here are our submission/contest windows for StoryQuarterly Issue 53 (to be published in 2020).
General fiction submissions: September 28 through December 1, 2019
Nonfiction contest: November 9, 2019 through April 30, 2020
Fiction contest: December 14, 2019 through April 30, 2020
On the first day a submission/contest window is open, the option will appear in the list below.
An overview of our submission/contest guidelines: We are looking for previously unpublished work. Most pieces we publish are under 6,250 words. For fiction submissions and our fiction contest, we welcome short fiction, short shorts, and novel excerpts. (Novel excerpts must be readable as stand-alone pieces.)
As an alternative to our regular print edition, we are excited to offer our current issue, StoryQuarterly 52, in a downloadable digital format (PDF).
Issue 52 features new work by Matthea Harvey, Lisa Olstein, S. Kirk Walsh, Bruce Holbert, Pam Diamond, and many more. The issue also includes the winners of the seventh annual Fiction Prize, judged by Nafissa Thompson-Spires, and the fourth annual Nonfiction Prize, judged by Brian Blanchfield.

StoryQuarterly is committed to publishing great work by established and emerging writers. However, we are a small organization operating on a shoestring budget and we are very grateful for any donations. (We have set this up in $5 increments due to Submittable restrictions.)
